How often should you get massage?

Regular Massage Is Prioritizing Your Health

Here's something I've noticed: It's incredibly easy to let massage appointments slide when they're something you wait to schedule.

There's always something else to do — work, family, errands, the unexpected.

Before you know it, months have passed.

When you establish a regular massage appointment, you've make a commitment to yourself, and you have a dedicated opportunity to receive the care your body needs.

You don't have to wait until you're desperate for relief to take care of your body.

How Often Should You Get a Massage?

One of the questions I am asked is how often someone should receive massage therapy.

The answer depends on your health, lifestyle, physical demands, stress levels, and personal goals.

However, there are some general rhythms that I think work beautifully for many people.

Once a Month: Maintenance Rhythm

If you're in relatively good health and want to maintain your quality of life, I think one massage a month is an amazing rhythm.

A monthly appointment gives you consistent time to:

  • Address accumulating muscular tension.

  • Prioritize relaxation.

  • Support comfortable movement.

  • Check in with your body.

  • Make time for yourself.

It's an amazing way to stay connected to your physical well-being without waiting until something becomes uncomfortable.

Every Other Week: A Bit More Support

For people experiencing higher levels of stress, more persistent muscular discomfort, or simply wanting more opportunities to relax, every other week can be lovely.

Twice-monthly appointments create a more frequent rhythm of care.

I have clients who really value this consistency because they notice how much better they feel when they don't let too much time pass between sessions.

Once a Week: When Additional Support Is Needed

For folks experiencing acute pain or more significant physical discomfort, weekly massage may be appropriate for a period of time.

The frequency should be based on your needs, the nature of the discomfort, and how your body responds.

If you're experiencing new, severe, or persistent pain, it's important to seek appropriate medical evaluation rather than relying on massage alone.

Ultimately, the goal is to find a sustainable rhythm that supports your health and fits your life.
